Sekar Utami | Wheaton IL Piano Teacher
Sekar Utami is a gifted pianist, music educator, and vocalist with almost 20 years of experience inspiring students and performing on international stages.
Sekar has a strong foundation in both classical and contemporary music, supported by a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Indonesia’s National University of Education. Her expertise is further enriched by years of advanced training at prominent institutions like Yamaha Music School and Elfa Music School. She has also participated in specialized workshops with renowned jazz and contemporary artists, reflecting her commitment to lifelong learning.
Sekar’s passion for music has led her to perform at prestigious global events, including the ASEAN Summit (2023, 2024), the World Choir Games (2006), and the Java Jazz International Festival (2007, 2015). Among her many achievements, she earned a Gold Medal in the Folklore with Instrument category at the World Choir Games and has written and arranged original songs that highlight her creativity and talent.
In her teaching career, Sekar has guided students of all ages, from young beginners to advanced musicians. Her personalized teaching style focuses on fostering creativity, confidence, and technical excellence, and she takes pride in helping her students deliver exceptional performances at recitals and ensemble concerts.
Beyond teaching, Sekar has made valuable contributions to cultural and educational initiatives. She has composed and arranged original pieces, performed at community events, and shared her expertise through workshops and ensemble coaching. Her dedication to music education and performance is evident in both her own creative work and her students’ successes.
Sekar is thrilled to be part of the Jerry Evans School of Music and is eager to encourage her students to explore their musical abilities and express themselves with the new skills that they learn.
