Flute Lessons in Wheaton

The Jerry Evans School of Music seeks to be one of the top Woodwind Programs in all of Chicagoland, and provides excellent Flute instruction to students of any skill level from Sam Hight. Whether playing in School Orchestra, School Band, Solo, in an Audition Orchestra, in a Pop Band, or just for fun at home, students will receive a thorough Flute education in an environment of excellence and enjoyment.

Sam Hight is a ILMEA District Competition Judge and Clinician in the Midwest. Sam has performed with Grammy Award Winners, and musicians such as The Wooten Brothers Band, Buddy Guy, Marquis Hill, Thomas Rhett, and the winner of NBC Television’s “The Voice”: Adam Wakefield.  Sam graduated with a Bachelors of Music Degree with full university honors from Northern Illinois University. Sam Hight is fluent in Classical Music, as well as Pop or Jazz Music, and can teach students in any of those genres. Sam brings his Flute expertise to help students succeed while also bringing a kind spirit, friendliness, experience, and patience to work with all students, whether their pace of progress is quick or slow.  Sam helps students foster a love for music that helps them work through any obstacle they might face. Students will believe they can do great things and will feel free to take on exciting challenges.

The JESM Flute program empowers musicians using proper fundamentals, a core curriculum designed to fit each student’s needs, and helping students connect to music where they can also play music that they choose. From J.S. Bach, to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, to Tchaikovsky, to general Classical Music, to general Orchestra Music, to Movie themes, to Pop/Rock music, a student can learn it at the JESM. Your student will excel in their school’s music programs as Sam will work hand in hand with the music of your student’s Orchestra/Band teacher.  

Flute Lessons cover all or part of the following information based on the students’ level, needs, and goals:

Music Fundamentals: Reading music/sight reading, basic music theory, playing by ear, scales, rhythmic development, etc…
Technique: Instrument placement, fingering/embouchure, tone development, breath control, posture, etc…
Musicality: Understanding the dynamics and interpretation of music, articulation, phrasing, improvisation, etc…
Style: Developing Flue skills in Classical, and contemporary styles.

Students have the opportunity to play in Student Concerts, as well as enroll in Rock Band or Beyond Band class if they desire.
