Annelise Avery | Wheaton Cello Instructor
Annelise Avery is a cellist based in the Chicago area. She is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in cello performance at Wheaton College under the teaching of Leonardo Altino. Additionally, Annelise is studying pedagogy under Beth Bauer. She specializes in classical cello performance, chamber music, orchestral performance, and contemporary Christian music. She currently performs regularly with the Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra and the Wheaton College Sol Quartet.
Annelise has experience performing solo, chamber, orchestral, studio, theater, and church music. She has performed with artists such as Keith and Kristyn Getty and has recorded with Chris Tomlin. Annelise draws inspiration from cellists like Steven Isserlis, Anastasia Kobekina, Thomas Demenga, Sol Gabetta, and many more. Alongside conservatory performances, Annelise often serves in church services and gigs regularly at weddings, dinner parties, and nursing homes with chamber colleagues. Annelise is also naturally drawn to improvisation.
Annelise has a passion for teaching, fostered at Wheaton College. As a teacher, Annelise seeks to collaborate with each student, uncovering their inspiration, ideas, and desire for the cello. Recognizing that each student brings their own voice to music, Annelise seeks to empower and unlock their gifts. She encourages her students to pursue technical excellence while also exploring their natural creativity. Annelise desires to create personal relationships with her students to ensure they feel safe, seen, and understood.
