Tim Nichin | Drum Lessons in Wheaton

Tim Nichin is an accomplished drummer, classical percussionist, and teacher based in the Chicagoland area.

Tim holds a Master’s degree in Music Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Math and Music at Lake Forest College. During his Master’s, Tim studied under the excellent tutorship of Ricardo Flores and William Moersch, whose teaching is focused on not only teaching the technical aspects of performance, but also a nuanced concept of sound quality, the ability to listen critically, and the capability to make intelligent artistic choices.

Tim is a two-time winner in the Charleston Classical Music Competition, a prestigious competition that attracts thousands of musicians each year, with participants from over 80 countries. He has collaborated in performances and recordings with many notable musicians, including Peiyao Cheng on Astor Piazolla’s Histoire du Tango, and Don Meyer on Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet. During his studies, Tim also earned the position of principal percussionist and timpanist in the universities’ top ensembles. Tim has expertise in a wide range of musical styles, including classical, rock, jazz, pop, and hip-hop, and brings over a decade of experience as an educator. Tim aims to nurture each student’s exploration and discovery of their unique musical voice, and guides them to be able to learn on their own.
