I was getting ready for my freshman year of high school when the first Pirates of the Caribbean film hit theaters. I must have gone to see that movie three times. There was something so nostalgic about the way that Disney transformed their iconic ride into a feature film. About half way through my second viewing, I realized what true drew me into the story – the music!

The way that Hans Zimmer perfectly blends the violins, violas, cellos and double bass in the theme almost makes you feel as though you are right there, on the bough of some ship, chasing adventure.

Those are the feelings that we are hoping to inspire in our students as they take their instruments out to practice each day. We aspire to make music an adventure.

We would like to invite you to join us as we set out on our next adventure, here at the Jerry Evans School of Music. This summer, we are launching the Chamber Strings Ensemble. Violin, viola, cello and double bass students from Wheaton, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Lombard, Lisle, West Chicago, Naperville and the other suburbs DuPage county are invited to join us as we embark.

This auditioned group is an opportunity for our students to tackle some more challenging pieces in a collaborative group context. Under the direction of our very own Aaron Policastro, we will engage with pieces like Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, modern works such as John Rutter’s Suite for Strings, and of course, scores from films like the Pirates of the Caribbean.
