This week, I decided to take a look at the piano from a humorous perspective. Victor Borge was a classical piano player who captivated his audiences through humor. Hailing from Denmark, Borge grew up in a family of musicians, so he started studying piano at the Royal Danish Music Conservatory at age 10.

In his first big performance at age 14, Borge noticed the audience falling asleep. He chose to play faster and faster with the orchestra following him. When the conductor lost his place, Borge walked over to the conductor and pointed to the music. The audience burst into laughter and applause.

When Borge decided to pursue piano full-time, he discovered that he often suffered from stage-fright.  He interacted with the audience to combat this, which eventually led to full comedy routines. Later in his life, Borge often performed for TV audiences, increasing his fame. Sometimes he performed solo, and other times he performed duets with guests.

Check out these videos of some of Victor Borge’s performances.
