At the Jerry Evans School of Music, our goal is to be one of the top Strings Programs in the whole Chicagoland area. We pursue excellence and think big! The JESM offers lessons in Violin, Viola, Cello, & Double Bass. We also just launched a Chamber Strings Ensemble for all four string instruments. This fall we will launch a Suzuki Violin Class for students ages 4-7.
As parents call the school to start string lessons, students tend to start Violin lessons, or maybe Cello or Double Bass lessons. However, the one instrument of the string family which sometimes doesn’t get noticed as much is the Viola.
Viola lessons are awesome! The Viola does a great job of combining the high registers that the human ear can hear, and begins to delve into the mid and low notes of the registers that we listen to. Here are some great facts about the Viola:
1. The Viola is the middle voice of the orchestra and is tuned lower than the Violin, and higher than the Cello.
2. The Viola has a richer voice that provides accompaniment for solo pieces and harmony for the orchestra.
3. The Viola is a solo instrument, and their are multiple Concerti written for the Viola (Telemann, Hoffmeister, Stamitz).
4. The famous composer Brahms tended to feature Viola in his music.
5. The Viola will give you tons of “cool” points with everyone!
Viola Lessons at the Jerry Evans School of Music are taught by the amazing Karene Lo Galbo! Karene has been teaching for 17 years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music form North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. Karene grew up in France and learned under the international instructor & performer, Anne Jodry. The French system of Strings education is one of the top Strings systems in the entire world. Karene studied for over twelve years at Le Concervatoire de Musique de Fresnes, a branch of Le Concervatoire de musique de Paris in France. If you are looking for Viola lessons, Karene is an excellent choice!
